GE Supplier conference :: Attracting Industrial Investment in Bihar


Patna, Bihar | June | 20, 2017: GE,Attracting Industrial Investment in Bihar the world’s premier Digital Industrial company today organized its Suppliers’ Conference in Bihar along with representatives of the Government of Bihar at Hotel Maurya, Patna. Jai Kumar Singh, Industries Minister was the Chief Guest. The conference was hosted by GE Transportation with the theme “Attracting Industrial Investment in Bihar” and was attended by members from various Industry bodies.
The event discussed investment opportunities in Bihar wherein the state becomes a manufacturing hub for the Indian Railways with a strong presence of ancillary industries. Discussions involved some of the proactive steps undertaken by the government to position Bihar as an investment destination.

Speaking at the occasion,  Jai Kumar Singh, Industries Minister, Government of Bihar commented, “Companies like GE are anchor companies around which a manufacturing ecosystem can be created for high-quality manufacturing and skill building. This is key to building and sustaining the positive business environment in Bihar.”

“A reliable supply chain network is what every OEM would want. GE maintains world class standards of manufacturing and processes. If suppliers do come in to the state and comply with what we need, the relationship is long term,” said Amit Kumar, Chief Supply Chain Officer, GE South Asia & ASEAN Region.

The Bihar Government is making significant efforts to attract investment in manufacturing industries. The key to attract investment is adequate support infrastructure like roads, electricity, skilled manpower, ease of doing business and appropriate incentives to drive more investment.

As part of the contract to supply Indian Railways with 1000 diesel locomotives, GE is building a locomotive factory in Marhowra, Bihar. The new factory is being built on the lines of GE’s state of the art locomotive manufacturing facility in Texas, USA. Over 60 suppliers are already aligned to support the factory in India. The factory once fully operational will build 100 locomotives for the Indian Railways every year starting 2018. In addition, the factory is also equipped to support export requirements. The construction work is progressing at a fast pace and the factory is expected to be operational by end of 2018.

GE is investing $200 million to build a greenfield manufacturing base in Bihar and service facilities in UP at Roza and in Gujarat at Gandhidham.
