Ranchi, Jharkhand | October | 31, 2019 :: IIM Ranchi had the privilege to host the U.S. Consulate (Kolkata) on October 31, 2019, for a session on Data Localization and Privacy Rights. Guest of honors Mr. Daniel Castro, Vice President at the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) and director of ITIF’s Center for Data Innovation, Mr. Krish Das, Assistant Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate (Kolkata) and Ms. Syeda Saadia Azim, Public Affairs Specialist at the U.S. Consulate (Kolkata) graced us with their presence in the session.
The speakers were greeted by honorable director Dr. Shailendra Kumar Singh, Prof. Anand, and Prof. Arnab Adhikari, while Prof. K. N. Singh, Prof. Asit Mohapatra and Prof. Bala felicitated our hon’ble guests.
A total of over 70 students were in attendance, enthused, and full of anticipation, having had the chance to interact with the dignitaries.
Prof. Bala also addressed the students and reiterated the feats of IIM Ranchi, which is emerging as one of the leading institutes of the country and the very first to start an HRM program, and reaffirmed our core values among students.
He also talked about improvements in the H.R. system, research policies, and technology.
Mr. Daniel Castro, who has an extended repertoire of experience in India’s privacy policies, the Digital India program, and data integration in Smart Cities, expressed his delight for being invited to IIM Ranchi and talked about enabling the next wave of digital innovation, along with explaining the five waves of digital innovation – Mainframe economy, network economy, internet economy, data economy, algorithm economy. He gave the session an interactive twist by asking the H.R. participants in the audience to tweet him some good interview questions. The significance of data a transforming agent in terms of Information, Interactive, Transactional, and Perceptive aspects spurs the digital change at an incredible pace. This disruptive pace varies widely by industry and geography. Further, he highlighted the importance of the human element in an organization.
Krish Das, who works at promoting mutual understanding between people of India and the U.S., talked about his formative years in India and what brings India and the U.S. closer in the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Prof. Amarendu Nandi, the chairperson at International Relations, addressed the students and delivered vote of thanks to the attendees including faculty, media representatives, students, Alumni and International Relations Committee, and the staff-members, who facilitated the event, and to the speakers for gracing us with their presence. This session was a great learning experience for the students of IIM Ranchi as they were exposed to many new ideas in the field of digital innovation and technology.
