Ranchi, Jharkhand | November | 18, 2017 :: EKJUT, (meaning ‘togetherness’ in multiple Indian languages), a credible non-profit organization is celebrating its 15 years’ journey in a novel way by inviting noted photo journalist, Padma Shri awardee Sudharak Olwe and noted award winning German photographer Ms. Helena Schätzle will display a visual interpretation of their work at Fr. C. De Brower hall, St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi from 19th to 21st November. In Sudharak Olwe’s words – “I have been visiting rural Jharkhand and Odisha for many years now and have seen how Ekjut’s work of saving lives of mothers and children through community participation has organically grown to include combating undernutrition, empowering adolescents, addressing problems of gender based violence and currently its work for the rights of urban homeless people”.
The theme of this exhibition is ‘SURVIVE, BLOSSOM, THRIVE and TRANSFORM’. We bring you real-life snapshots from lives of women belonging to the indigenous communities. Sudharak’s photography is that of empathy. It is a journey into the unseen perspective of the human condition. His photography cuts across all barriers and presents to you a moving story of individuals and communities.
The inaugural session will be attended by Sudhir Tripathy, Padma Shri Mukund Nayak, Padma Shri Shri Simon Oraon, Shri Haren Thakur and Smt Arti Kujur. Over the three days, experts will be speaking on issues ranging from equity to economics to food sovereignty.
About EKJUT :: EKJUT’s evidence based work of building healthier communities that had started in 200 villages of Jharkhand and Odisha, is now touching the lives of mothers and children in more than 100 000 villages of Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Assam, West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Meghalaya and has won them several national and international awards. This endeavour has been possible with partnership of the central and several state governments.
