UNICEF Organizes ‘Capture the Right Moment’ Photography Workshop for CUJ students

UNICEF Organizes ‘Capture the Right Moment’ Photography Workshop for CUJ studentsRanchi, Jharkhand | September | 24, 2016 ::  ‘Capture the Right Moment’ photography workshop was organized for Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) students enrolled in the Bachelors and Masters course of Mass Communication as part of the UNICEF on Campus Knowledge Initiative here today.

Moira Dawa, Communication Officer, UNICEF said, “Through the UNICEF on Campus Knowledge Initiative a pool of trained young people will be created as advocates for child rights. We seek to tap into the creativity energy of young people and empowers them to report violations of child rights and mobilise communities. UNICEF Jharkhand has partnered with colleges and Universities in the state to increase awareness about child rights, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which have replaced the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).”

Inaugurating the workshop, Prof Sarang Medhekar, Acting Vice Chancellor of CUJ said, “Camera is an extension of the human eye. It’s a wonderful device for bringing change in the society. Media students should use this powerful tool ethically. I thank UNICEF Jharkhand for organizing the workshop for CUJ students.”

Prof Dev Vrat Singh, Head of Department of Mass Communication, CUJ said, “Students should use their photography skills for betterment of the society. Photography does not mean only glamour and celebrity but its capturing stark/hard realities of common men as well.”

Kumar Premchand, WASH Specialist, UNICEF & Priti Srivastava, Child Protection Officer, UNICEF focussed on the social movement to create a Swachh and Surakshit Jharkhand for every child in Jharkhand.

Eminent photographer and lead resource person for the three day photography workshop, Shyam Prasad, explained the technicalities of photography and editing to the participants. He led the ‘photo walk’ to the neighbouring villages of Rendo & Patratu in Chuttu Panchayat in Ranchi where the students captured images around the selected themes of sanitation and protection for every child in Jharkhand.

The photos taken during the photo walk were critically reviewed by the jury and selected photos exhibited during the workshop. These will also be featured in a Special Edition booklet being released towards the end of the year to mark UNICEF’s 70th anniversary.

The workshop was attended by CUJ Faculty – Dr. Rajnesh Kumar Pandey, Dr. Vinay Bhushan and students.
