January | Saturday | 02, 2016 :: Veteran CPI leader A B Bardhan passed away on Saturday evening in New Delhi. Bardhan, 92, is survived by son Ashok and daughter Alka. His wife, a professor in Nagpur University, died in 1986. Bardhan was admitted to G B Pant hospital here after he suffered paralytic stroke last month.
Ardhendu Bhushan Bardhan (25 September 1924 – 2 January 2016) or A. B. Bardhan, was the former general secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), one of the oldest political parties in India.
He was from Nagpur and contested many elections from there winning only one – the 1957 for the Maharashtra State Assembly as an Independent candidate. He lost the 1967 and 1980 Lok Sabha elections contesting from Nagpur. He moved to Delhi politics in the 1990s and became the deputy general secretary of the party. He succeeded Indrajit Gupta as the General Secretary of the CPI in 1996. He passed away at a private hospital in Delhi on 2nd January 2016.
