XISS : Basketball tournament : The Start

Ranchi, Jharkhand | January | 10, 2018 :: The most awaited basketball tournament of XISS kick-started to a great beginning on 10th January, 2018 at Manresa Ground culminating on 14th January. The five day tournament has teams divided department wise and gender wise.
On a bright sunny afternoon, amidst extremely excited students, the week-long basketball tournament started with the assistant director’s scout for the first basket. The Assistant Director greeted every player and of the tournament openend with a match between IT1 and RM1. As the match started with the first whistle of the referee it was Prateek from the IT team scoring the first basket and just few minutes after the first basket it was Prateek again scoring three consecutive baskets in the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter the score was 8-0, with IT taking the lead. The beginning of the second quarter brought some relief for RM who opened the scorebook with the first basket by Naman. 2 out of 3 baskets in the second quarter was done by RM and thus the score at the end of the second quarter was 4-10, with IT taking the lead.
At the end of the third quarter the score stood at 6-16 with 3 baskets from IT and 1 from RM. In the 4th quarter too, Prateek Patel came out as a star player scoring 2 more baskets. RM too performed well scoring 4 baskets but ended up losing the match with the score at 14-25, at the final whistle.

Meanwhile, the first girls’ match was between Marketing and Finance department in the XISS basketball court. Finance started leading the first half with 16-0. In the second half, the marketing team showed quite an improvement in their game with the score coming to 16-10. However, this effort was not sustainable and the final score reflected a clear win of the finance team with a score of 28-16.
The second girls’ match was between RM and IT. These two teams showed equally fierce competition from the start and the first half ended with equal baskets from both teams, score reading 4-4. With energy levels remaining high at both ends, the third quarter saw RM take a two point leading the score to 6-4. This lead continued till the end with RM winning the match with a score of 10-4.
At the end of the third quarter the score stood at 6-16 with 3 baskets from IT and 1 from RM.
Then the second match between boys of HRM 1 and Finance 1 started. The first basket was done by Atman for Finance. The end of the first quarter showed the score at 0-2 with Finance 1 leading. In the second quarter Finance 1 opened the scoreboard with a basket from Himalaya. At the end of the second quarter the score was 0-8 with Finance 1 leading. In the third quarter HRM 1 opened the scoreboard with a free throw and Nishit scored the first basket. The final score at the end of the third quarter was 3-12 with Finance 1 again taking the lead. Finally at the end of the 4th quarter HRM 1 got 2 free throws ending the match at 7-14 with Finance winning the match.
In the 3rd match, HRM-2 came down to the field with bright yellow Jerseys having the name of their mothers at the back of it, proving to be their lucky charm. Just 5 seconds after the opening whistle Abhas scored the first basket for HRM – 2 and another one just a few seconds later. Godzi from Finance – 2 scored a three pointer. There was re-shuffle of the entire HRM-2 team after the 2nd quarter. The strategy worked again and HRM – 2 ended up winning the match with a huge score of 37-10.

The last and the final match of the day was between IT-2 and RM-2 in which IT – 2 came out to be the winner with a score of 16-11
