Ranchi, Jharkhand | June | 17, 2017 :: Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) welcomed its new batch of 2017-19 on June 17, 2017 who will be taking forward the legacy of the Institution that came into existence in 1955. The inauguration ceremony was organized in the auditorium where students from all the five departments (Human Resources Management, Rural Management, Information Technology Management, Finance Management, and Marketing Management) were inducted. The Institute holds a total of 330 seats.The event started with the lighting of lamp by all the dignitaries including the chief guest for the occasion Dr. Joerome Joseph, Prof. Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad followed by a welcome speech by Fr. Alexius Ella S.J, Director, Xavier Institute of Social Service, Ranchi. In his speech he talked at length about the achievements and works of Dr. Joerome Joseph and about Fr. Joseph Marianus Kujur, Chairman of governing body of XISS. He welcomed the new batch with open arms and told about the culture and rules followed at XISS. He enlightened the students as to how along with academics, XISS will help them discover and polish their creative side with events like Panache and other co-curricular activities. After a brief introductionof all the faculty members, Fr. Pradeep Kerketta shared a brief sketch of St. Francis Xavier and his journey with St. Ignatius in establishing the Society of Jesus. Dr. Fr. Joseph Marianus Kujur assured students how XISS will mould the students to perfection so that they excel in every field of life and for the holistic transformation of the society. At last the Chief guest of the event Dr. Joerome Joseph made a powerful speech about the 2 action packed years that the students will have here at XISS and the driving vision and mission behind it. He gave the advice of how the 3 things- supporting sustainability, becoming a job creator, and becoming a peace maker, are the need of the hour.At the end Prof. Sanjeev Bajaj asked Mrs. Suparna Dev, wife of late Mr.Awanish Kumar Dev to come up and provide the Awanish Kumar Dev Memorial Scholarship of Rs. One Lakh each to the second year students of PGDM HR namely TulikaSneha and Richa Pathak under the Maruti Suzuki XISS Awanish Kumar Dev Memorial Trust. After the vote of thanks by Prof. Mrityunjoy Roy, HR, XISS the new joiners moved to their respective classes for induction with their respective faculty members where they were told about the institute, its vision, mission and all the necessary details were given which they will need for the proper conduct in the college. An anti-narcotics Government drive seminar was organized as a follow up session to spread awareness about the demerits of drug abuse. A new journey started with new faces and new dreams.
