Ranchi, Jharkhand | August | 25, 2017 :: ICAR-IIAB [ Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology ] has celebrated its 4th Foundation Day on 25th August, 2017 at Palash Auditorium, ICAR-IINRG, Namkum, Ranchi. Eminent Scientist and Vice Chancellor of BAU, Ranchi Dr. Parvinder Kaushal graced the occasion as a Chief Guest and a Foundation Day Lecture was delivered by Prof. Ashwini Pareek, SLS, JNU, New Delhi.
The programme was attended by dignitaries from different Institutes and Universities such as ICAR-IINRG, BAU, ICAR-RC for Eastern Region, Institute of Forest Productivity, BIT, Central University, Ranchi University, KVK etc.In the beginning of Programme Dr. T.R. Sharma, Director, ICAR-IIAB, Ranchi welcomed all the dignitaries and presented the progress in research and developmental activities taken up by the Institute since its inception. He also gave the detailed account of infrastructural development activities going on in Main Campus situated in Garhkhatanga, Ranchi.
Dr. Parvinder Kaushal congratulated the faculties of ICAR-IIAB and emphasized the role of this Institute in developing “Location specific nutritionally enriched Crop”. He stressed the need of collaborative research work to enhance the Crop Productivity to meet the specific requirement of Jharkhand state.
Dr. K.K. Sharma, Director, ICAR-IINRG, who was guest of honour, he emphasized the need of modern biotechnological tools to provide quality food grains to meet the demand of ever increasing population. The development of bio-fortified food grains is the need of hour and ICAR-IIAB will play an important part in this area. He also emphasized the important role of ICAR-IIAB in bringing green revolution in eastern India.
Dr. A.K. Singh, Head, ICAR-RC for Eastern Region, Regional Station, Ranchi congratulated the faculty of ICAR-IIAB on this occasion and also expressed his joy about the availability of this kind of Institute in Ranchi to carry out the collaborative work in horticultural crops using modern biotechnological tools.
During his foundation day lecture on “Food and Nutritional Security through Agri-Biotechnology” Dr. Ashwini Pareek emphasized the need of conducting research work in close proximity of nature with understanding the evolutionary pattern of crops. He hoped that this Institute will be developed as a premier Institute for Biotechnological research work in South Asia.
In end of programme, Dr. V.P. Bhadana, Principal Scientist proposed formal Vote of Thanks.
