SAMBURU
The Samburu National Reserve was one of the two areas in which conservationists
George Adamson & Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness & made award winning movie Born Free.
Several species are considered unique to the region, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk, Grevy’s Zebra.
All three big cats, lion, cheetah and leopard, can be found here, as well as elephants, buffalo and
hippos. Other mammals frequently seen in the park include Olive baboon, warthogs, Grant’s gazelle,
Kirk’s dik-dik, impala, waterbuck, Beisa oryx.
LAKE NAKURU
Is one of Kenya’s two Premium Parks, and is a bird lover’s paradise. It surrounds
Lake Nakuru, located in the Central Rift Conservation Area in the Southern Rift Valley region of Kenya.
Originally protected as a bird sanctuary, this park hosts over 400 bird species. This park was also the
first national Rhino sanctuary and hosts one of the world’s highest concentrations of the
Black Rhinoceros.
Lake Nakuru National Park is home to 50+ mammal species, and over 500 species of flora.
This park is famous for the flocks of Greater and Lesser Flamingos that gather around the lake,
sometimes with as many as 2 million! you are guaranteed to see: White Rhinos, African Buffalos,
Rothschild Giraffes, Zebras, Impalas, Olive Baboons, Vervet Monkeys, Waterbucks, variety of water
birds (Yellow-billed Pelicans, Marabou Storks, Hammerkops, Fish Eagles, etc.)
Common in the park: Hyenas, Jackals, Lesser Flamingos, Hippopotamus, Pythons If you are lucky
You may see: Lions, Leopards, Black Rhinos, Wild Dogs, Colobus Monkeys, Cheetahs.
MASAI MARA
It is globally famous for its exceptional population of lions, leopards and cheetahs,
and the annual migration of zebra, Thomson’s gazelle, and wildebeest to and from the Serengeti
every year from July to October, known as the Great Migration . All members of the “Big Five”
(lion, leopard, African elephant, African buffalo, and Black Rhinoceros) almost 60 species being
raptors. Birds that call this area home for at least part of the year include: vultures, marabou storks, secretary birds, hornbills, crowned cranes, ostriches, long-crested Eagles, African pygmy-falcons and
the lilac-breasted roller, which is the national bird of Kenya.
