Ranchi, Jharkhand | August | 19, 2017 :: Delhi Public School, Ranchi under the aegis of DPS Society New Delhi, organized the Annual Inter DPS Dance Competition-NRITYANJALI on 19th August 2017. Kum. Uma Sharma an acclaimed kathak dancer and recipient of the prestigious Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri , Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Sahitya Kala Parishad Award as well as a choreographer of great repute was the Chief Guest for today’s event.
Padma Shri Ashok Bhagat ( Social Worker ), Padma Shri Balbir Dutt [ Education and Literature (Journalism)], Padma Shri Mukund Nayak ( Jhumar Folk Dance and Song ), Parent’s of Padma Shri Deepika Kumari ( Sports –Archery ) and Padma Shri Simon Oraon (Baba) [ Jharkhands’s Waterman ], were present as Special Guests.
A special felicitation ceremony was organized for the special guests. Dr. Ram Singh the Principal of the school felicitated them. They were all honored with a shawl and a memento.
The prime aim of such kind of programs is for the holistic development of children and is an unique way of meeting and interacting with the other DPS School which in turn will help to build a strong bond .
The eminent judges for the day were Dr. Malwika Mukherjee ( Phd in Kathak & Creative Dance and proud recipient of Jharkhand Pratibha Samman Award ) from Hazaribagh, Smt. Rubina Chatterjee ( Masters in Bharatnatyam, Odissi & trained Contemporary dancer from London ) from Kolkata and Smt. Reshmi Chaudhari ( Masters in Kathak and TV actress ) from Jamshedpur.
Dr. Ram Singh principal DPS Ranchi in his welcome address said that that these kinds of competitions give the students a chance to showcase their talent; it also guides and encourages the young artists to peruse a career in the field of dance. He also said that it is through these programmes we can help the children to remain deeply rooted to their culture and tradition. It was also stated by him that it is participation that is more important and not winning.
For this year DPS Society has chosen “Satyamev Jayate” and “Jagriti” as the theme for this competition. More than 14 school from the eastern zone participated in this competition. Each team consisted of 6-9 members. DPS Guwahati, Paradeep Refinery, Bokaro Steel City, North Kolkata, South Kolkata, Dhali Gao, Farakka, Durg, Dhulijan, Asansol, Nazirah, Howrah, Ruby Park, and DPS Ranchi were the participants for this spectacular show.
Every team was given 7 minutes for their performance which included 5minutes of dance and 2 minutes for arrangement and removal of props. The participants were judged on the basis of costumes, props, choreography, synchronization and rhythmic movements.
DPS Ranchi emerged as the overall winner for their unique concept, scintillating performance and agile movements. Through their dance they depicted that it is love, courage, brotherhood and compassion that stays forever, hence we should not create walls on the basis of caste, creed and religion. They were also awarded for best costume. The winning team will be taking part in the national round which will be held in New Delhi. The 1st runner up of the competition was DPS Bokaro and and the 2nd runner up was DPS Ruby Park.
The prize for best props went to DPS Bokaro, DPS Howarah won the prize for best choreography, DPS Nazira for best synchronization, and DPS Dhuliajan for best Rhythmic movements.
The Chief Guest appreciated the brilliant performance of all the schools and said that hard work is the only key to success. She also said that apart from studies cultural activities are also important to remain on the right track on life.
The winning team was ravished by their victory and were of opinion that this competition has not only given us an opportunity to showcase our talent but has also instilled immense amount of confidence in us.
