Ranchi, Jharkhand | November | 26, 2019 :: On 26th November 2019, Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, observed the auspicious occasion of the 70th ‘Constitution Day’ or ‘Samvidhan Diwas’, the day India’s Constitution was adopted in November 26, 1949, and came into force on January 26, 1950, marking the beginning of a new era in the history of India.
The event was attended by around 300 participants namely Dr. Amar E. Tigga, Acting Director, XISS; Fr. Pradeep Kerketta S.J., Assistant Director, XISS; Head of Programmes, Faculty Members, Staff & Students of all five programmes. The event began with a background introduction of the Constitution Day by Dr. Raj Shree Verma, Assistant Professor, XISS who put forward the purpose of the day.
Dr. Amar E. Tigga in his address stressed on the importance of the words of the preamble of the Indian Constitution and said that the Constitution is ‘the vehicle of life’ and wished for the long life of the Constitution. The gathering was then addressed by Prof. Nidhi Shukla who stated that the Constitution is our ‘holiest and sacred book’ and talked about the importance of the Constitution, the functions and importance of the Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary, the meaning of the Preamble and the need to live, strive and congregate to uphold the Constitution of our nation.
Abhishek Singh a student of Rural Management, first year, shared some important facts about the Constitution and its makers. The event concluded with an oath of the Preamble of the Constitution initiated by Fr. Pradeep Kerketta S.J., Assistant Director XISS followed by everyone present in the auditorium.
