New Delhi: June 18: The National Union of Journalists (India) will organise a nationwide dharna on June 25 against the repeated attacks on journalists and also to press upon its demand for enactment of a comprehensive Journalist Protection Act, Media Council and to highlight the miseries of mediapersons.
In Delhi, the dhrana will be organised at Jantar Mantar at 11 am. Simultaneously, the similar dharnas will be organised in all state capitals and district headquarters across the country the same day. Many eminent journalists are expected to attend and address the dharnas all over the country.
After the dharna, a memorandum, addressed the Prime Minister/Chief Ministers/Governors will be presented to the authorities concerned. In Delhi, the memorandum will be presented to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh by a high level delegation of the NUJ (I).
According to Mr Ras Bihari, Secretary of NUJ (I), the dharna to be organised at Jantar Mantar would be attended by hundreds of senior journalists representing various leading newspapers and news channels. The issue of retrenchment of over 100 journalists by CNEB news channel recently will also be opposed at the dharna.
