Draupadi Murmu :: First Woman Governor of Jharkhand.Ranchi, Jharkhand May 18, 2015 :: Draupadi Murmu took oath as Governor of Jharkhand in Rajbhawan, Ranchi. She is the First Woman Governor of Jharkhand. Murmu succeeds Syed Ahmed, who will take over as Manipur Governor. She headed the BJP’s Mayurbhanj district unit in Odisha and had represented Rairangpur in the Odisha assembly.

 Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Virendra Singh administered the oath of office to Murmu. Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, his cabinet colleagues, former Chief Ministers Shibu Soren and Arjun Munda, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Sudarshan Bhagat and a host of other dignitaries were present during the oath-taking ceremony.

Draupadi Murmu (Age: 58) is an Indian political figure and the Governor of Jharkhand since May 2015. She was former Odisha Minister and an MLA from Rairangpur assembly constituency in the years 2000 and 2004. She is the first woman leader from Odisha to be appointed as a Governor in an Indian State. During the Bharatiya Janata Party and Biju Janata Dal coalition government in Odisha, She was the Minister of State with independent charge for Commerce and Transport from March 6, 2000 to August 6, 2002 and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development from August 6, 2002 to May 16, 2004.
