Every child has the right to life, survival, development and participation : Job Zachariah [ Chief UNICEF Jharkhand ]

Ranchi, Jharkhand 19 March 2015  :: A Learning session on the principles and guidelines for ethical reporting on children & young people for over 90 students of mass communication & video production was organized by UNICEF Jharkhand at St Xavier’s college in Ranchi today.
Job Zachariah [ Chief UNICEF Jharkhand ] said, “Every child has the right to life, survival, development and participation as per the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child ( UNCRC ). The UNCRC guarantees all rights to children without discrimination. The best interest of the child must be the primary consideration in all actions concerning children.”He added, “UNICEF will launch a ‘UNICEF on Campus’ programme in schools and colleges in the state. We seek the support of young people like you to advocate for child rights. You can become ambassadors for UNICEF in the fight against child marriage, child labour, child trafficking, and other social issues.”
Ms. Moira Dawa [ Communication Officer, UNICEF Jharkhand ] took the students through the guidelines for interviewing and reporting on children as well as the legal provisions for media coverage on children.
Santosh Kiro, Head of Mass Communication & Video Production was present during the programme.
