06 March 2015 :: Guru Gobind Singh, the last of ten Sikh gurus, who was born at Anandpur Sahib, had initiated the Sikh Khalsa in 1699, passing the Guruship of the Sikhs to the eternal Sikh Guru, the Guru Granth Sahib.
On the first day of the festival today, religious congregations were held and devotees took dip in the holy sarovar (sacred tank) adjacent to the Sikh shrine.Hola Mahalla is a Sikh festival which begins on the first day of the lunar month of Chett most often falls in March, and sometimes coincides with the Sikh New Year. The event lasts for a week, and consists of camping out and enjoying various displays of fighting prowess and bravery, followed by kirtan, music, and poetry. The event concludes with a long, military-style procession near Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, one of the five seats of temporal authority of the Sikhs.
