04 December 2012 :: The Environmental Science and Engineering Group, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra Ranchi Had organised a National Conference on “Sustainable Development and Global Competitiveness”. The inaugural ceremony of the conference was held at BIT, Mesra. Professor M.J. Xavier, Director, Indian Institute of Management Ranchi was Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony of the Conference. Professor Gopal Pathak, officiating vice-chancellor BIT, Mesra and also the conference chairman presided over the inaugural function. Dr. N.K. Kole, Registrar, BIT, Mesra was also present during the inaugural function. Professor M.J. Xavier delivered the keynote lecture to mark the beginning of the technical sessions of the conference. Professor M.J. Xavier appreciated the conference topic and highlighted the relevance of sustainable development and global competitiveness. He also congratulated BIT, Mesra for selecting a topic like this which is apt for Jharkhand and other parts of the globe. Dr. Kirti Avishek, conference co-ordinator, BIT, Mesra gave an overview about the conference. Dr. R. Naresh Kumar, conference co-ordinator, BIT, Mesra thanked the guests and participants.
The conference is being attended by delegates and participants from various academic institutes, government and industrial organisations. The major aim of the conference is to share the knowledge, interpret, adopt and devise strategies to implement the best practices on “sustainable development and global competitiveness”. First day of the conference discussed about the technical papers on sustainable development and energy use, global competitiveness and economic growth, green economy and sustainable Development. Second day of the conference will discuss on the technical papers related to environmental issues and their impact on sustainable development and adapting educational curriculum to prepare future generation towards sustainability.
