INBA’s International Conference on Law and Policy Issues

New Delhi, India | December | Tuesday | 08, 2015 :: The “International Conference on Law and Policy Issues” to commemorate the 66th National Law Day was an unprecedented event in the history of Legal fraternity in New Delhi, India and even the world. This conference brought together an interdisciplinary group of professionals working in the field of law and policy. The conference began with the National anthem. Subhash C. Kashyap, President of INBA and Kaviraj Singh, General Secretary paid homage to martyrs and victims of 26/11 of Mumbai & 13/11 Paris terrorist attack victims. Furthermore, they presented the Annual Report about activities of the Indian National Bar Association. The tone of the main conference was set during the opening remarks by Members of Parliament from United Kingdom, H. E. Virendra Sharma and H. E. Stephen Pound, Vijay Sampla, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment and P. K. Malhotra, Law Secretary who introduced the latest developments in United Kingdom and India. Throughout the conference, more than 75 experts in the field shared their knowledge with the 400 attendees of the conference from over 08 countries across the world, the largest one yet since the conference’s inception in 2012. The National Law Day, which is like our humble tribute to the founding fathers of the constitution, prompt us to reflect upon and renew our pledge to protect, preserve and enhance the values enshrined in our constitution.

The main learning objectives for conference delegates were the following :

  • To promote best practices in law and policy making for the economic growth and national development.
  • Recognize the multifactorial determinants of challenging socio-political environment.
  • Recognize the role of corporate lawyers, policy makers and litigators
  • To create a network in the legal fraternity to find solutions of complex issues in an eloquent way.
  • Share knowledge and common experiences with others working in the field.

Overall, it provided educational and informative updates on alternate dispute resolution, “make in India” project, data privacy, media and entertainment and showcase best practices in the field. Specifically, the conference focused on approaches to complex challenging behaviours, contributing policy issues and new developments in law. In addition, the conference addressed important issues on alternate capital raising platform and reviewed differentiated approach to IPRs while addressing different sectoral innovations. It engaged academicians, government officials, corporate lawyers and litigators from a wide range of professional disciplines in knowledge transfer and interprofessional collaboration in order to find solutions of complex issues in an eloquent way. The format included plenaries, breakout sessions and award ceremony.

The eminent jury comprised of Senior Advocate Ram Jethmalani, Dr. Subhash C Kashyap, Tabrez Ahmed, Santanu Mukherjee and S. Ramaswamy. In an auspicious ceremony, Rakesh Bakshi was felicitated with the “General Counsel of the Year – Technology” award, Mrs. Pratibha M. Singh won the “Woman Lawyer of the Year”. Saikrishna Rajagopal received the “IP Practice – Law Firm of the Year” award on behalf of his Law Firm “Saikrishna & Associates”. Ms. Kavitha Gupta from Hitachi bagged the “Young Woman General Counsel of the Year” award. V. Rajesh Kumar was awarded the “Corporate Counsel of the Year 2015 – Privacy & Data Protection”. “General Counsel of the year 2015 – Infrastructure” was given to Badrinath Durvasula. “General Counsel of the year 2015 – Retail” went to Pulin Kumar. “Young Emerging Lawyer of the year 2015” went to Karan Singh Chandhiok. “Insurance Practice – Law Firm of the year 2015” was awarded to Rajat Taimni, Partner, (Tuli & Co.). The success of this event goes to the hard working team of INBA.
