Indian Junior Women Hockey Team selected for the upcoming Volvo International U-21 Women Tournament 2015

HockeyNew Delhi | July 11, 2015 :: With the Volvo International U-21 Women Tournament 2015 all set to commence on 19th July 2015 in Netherlands, Hockey India today announced the team for the upcoming tournament. The tournament being played ahead of the 7th Women Asia Cup will help the team as well as the coaches to understand the loopholes and how best to better oneself before the all important tournament slated for September 2015.

 The tournament ahead, will see six teams clashing against each other which includes Host team Netherlands, Indian England, New Zealand, Germany and China. The team of 18 players have been selected basis the preparatory camp which was held in New Delhi. The preparatory camp even saw new players getting added to the National camp and which was basis their good performance during the 5th Junior Women National Championship.

 The team all set to head towards Netherlands, will be captained under the guidance of Rani who has to her credit of being the lead striker for the Indian Women Hockey team. Her crucial goal in the match against Japan during the FINTRO Hockey World League Semi-finals ensured the team to claim the 5th position in the important tournament.

 Commenting on the tournament, Chief Coach Mathias Ahrens said, “This tournament is very important for us as the outcome here will create a base for us for the 7th Women Asia Cup to be played in September this year. This team has been picked up basis the on field coordination that they have showcased during the preparatory camp and I am confident they will deliver as per strategy. Our first match is against Netherlands and we are aiming for winning start”.

 The Volvo International U-21 Women Tournament will be held in Breda, the Netherlands from 16-26 July 2015 and India will be playing their opening match against Host team Netherlands. The 7th Junior Women Asia Cup will be held in Changzhou, China from 5-13 September 2015.
