Toronto , 02 June 2013 :: Interfaith day of prayers for Unity, Harmony and Preservation of our Globe was organized at Fo Guang Shan Temple, Mississauga, Toronto. Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Canada was invited by the temple to represent Sikh religion.
The President of Buddhist, and all other present warmly welcomed each one in the beautiful temple. The theme of the event was “Environment and Peace”. All religions were asked to signify how they contribute towards peace and unity.
Representing from Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle [ GGSSC ] Sharan Kaur and Binder Kaur greatly delivered the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji & the importance of three Pillars and the meaning of Ik On Kar. Both gave the message of Sikhism principles in Gurmukhi which were also being translated in English. This was for the first time that the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s for Humanity, Unity and Peace was delivered in such a large gathering of various religions
Member of Parliament Jason Kenny, Local MPP & Meyer were also invited for the event.
Youth president Sharan Kaur along with Amandeep Kaur, Sardar Tarsem Singh President of West Zone gave vote of thanks on behalf of “Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle”.
The whole day was full of graceful and unique prayers presented by various faiths/religions including Aboriginals, Buddhism, Catholic, Jewish, Sikhism, Baha’i, Hinduism and Islam. Representatives from each faith/religion expressed themselves in their exclusive religious attire. The message in each prayer was the same; there is only One God and we all should come together to bring peace, respect, patience and harmony around the globe.
The closing ceremony was adorable. The Buddhist came into the room peacefully holding lights, flowers,and hymning their prayers. They brought their Holy book in a tray very respectfully that touched every ones Hearts. Each one in the room was sitting calmly and praising The One- Lord
Binder Kaur of GGSSC appreciated the Fo Guang Shan Temple for giving the Honour and opportunity to represent Sikhism at Interfaith Day of Prayers 2013.We look forward for participating in such future events where can pour our Sikhism principles in communities to bring peace and unity around the globe and contribute to make this world a better place to live, She added.
