07 September 2012 :: Kaun Banega Crorepati also known as KBC is an Indian reality game show based on the UK game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” The show first aired in 2000 and was hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. This was the first appearance of Mr. Bachchan on Indian television.
On 5 August 2005, the show was restarted after a four-year interval, and renamed Kaun Banega Crorepati Dwitiya in which the final prize amount was doubled to 2 crore rupees.
Star Television signed Shahrukh Khan to host the third season of the show. Khan was at peak of his career then and was considered an ideal replacement for Amitabh Bachchan as the host of the show. The grand prize amount of 2 crore rupees was still used in KBC3. The third season of the show began airing on 22 January 2007.
The fourth season of KBC4 was hosted by Amitabh Bachchan and started on 11 October 2010, on Bachchan’s 68th birthday. The prize money was decreased to 1 crore, however a jackpot question for 5 crore was added. The fourth season of the show was highly successful due to the return of former host Amitabh Bachhan.
The fifth season started on 15 August 2011 on the Independence Day of India with the same format and ended on November 17, 2011. It was also a massive hit.
Mr. Amitabh Bachchan will also host Kaun Banega Crorepati 6 (KBC 6). Show to Start from 7th Sep, 2012 on Sony Tv. Show will be telecasted on Friday, Saturday & Sunday at 8.30pm with Sirf Gyaan Hi Aapko Aapka Haq Dilata Hai’ as the central theme.
