Programme on the “Contribution of Tribal Heroes in Indian Independence struggle”


Ranchi, 17th October 2022: Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi, in association with the National Commission for Schedule Tribes (NCST) conducted a programme on the ‘Contribution of Tribal Heroes in Indian Independence Struggle’ as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The event was held today, 17th of October 2022 at the CLC classroom, Suchana Bhavan. The event was preceded by a poster exhibition, honouring the Tribal Freedom Fighters from different parts of India.

The event was graced by the presence of the Cheif guest of the day, Dr Diwakar Minz, Ex-Dean of Social Science, Head University Department of History Ranchi University as well as other esteemed guests like Mr Ravishankar, Adviser in the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, Director of IIM Ranchi, Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Dr Rajkishore Hansda, National Co-Coordinator of Janjati Suraksha Manch, Prof. Pradeep Kumar Bala, Dean (Academic Affairs & Development), Prof. Renjith R, Chair, Birsa Munda Centre for Tribal Affairs and Captain Kumar Devashish, CEO and founder of Institute for Sustainable Development and Governance (ISDG) Research foundation.

Auspiciously beginning the meeting with a welcome note, the speakers went on to highlight the importance of researching and building awareness about the unsung heroes of the Tribal community during the Indian Independence. Dr Rajkishore Hansda, during his address, spoke of many such heroes from different parts of the country, reminding us of their stories and the sacrifices they made for our Motherland. Captain Kumar Devashish enlightened the crowd on the importance of research in developing the discovery of the rich history of the Indian tribal community, while Mr.Ravishankar, conducted an interactive session on the workings of NCST. Prof.Pradeep Kumar Bala talked about integrating management principles to provide an opportunity to uplift the tribal community. Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava concluded the discussion for the evening by highlighting how institutes of national importance like IIMs and IITs have the ability to contribute to this community in a much larger capacity and also hinted at some upcoming projects to be undertaken by the IIM Ranchi fraternity through its Birsa Munda Centre for Tribal Affairs. Chief Guest Dr. Diwakr Minz highlighted the necessity of significant research on different tribal groups of Jharkhand.

The event concluded with the Nation Anthem, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Prof Renjith and a felicitation ceremony for all the dignitaries.
