State level Seminar on Vocational and Skill Education for Principals of CBSE, ICSE, and Jharkhand Board SchoolsRanchi, Jharkhand 22 March 2015 :: State level Seminar on Vocational and Skill Education for Principals of CBSE, ICSE, and Jharkhand Board Schools was organized at Delhi Public School Ranchi for Principals, teachers and parents on 22.03.2015. Rajiv Pratap Rudy [ Minister of State, Ministry of Skill Development and Parliamentary affairs, Govt. of India ] was the Chief Guest and R.P. Singh [ IFS, Director Jharkhand Skill Development Mission ] was the Guest of Honour.

The programme was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Guest which was followed by the presentation of bouquets and lighting of the lamp.The prime objective of this Seminar was to discuss ways and means to enhance vocational education and training in Schools as an important element in building a Strong Nation. It was also discussed how Principals and teachers can act as facilitators to guide and tutor the future citizens of our country. The resources persons also highlighted the fact that why it was important to take skill building right from the grass root level.

Dr. Ram Singh, Principal [ DPS Ranchi] in his Welcome address extended a warm and hearty welcome to all the distinguished guests and said that DPS is strongly committed to this objective of tapping, moulding and nurturing this objective the skills of the young one right from the elementary level is that a strong base for our country can be laid. He also said that the quality of schooling was a key to empowerment and equality of opportunity and strongly advocates the need to make education meaningful so that it boosts employment in various sectors of Industries. It was also promised by him that he along with the members of Ranchi Sahodaya School Complex would surely work together with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to impart skill based education in all the schools of Jharkhand.State level Seminar on Vocational and Skill Education for Principals of CBSE, ICSE, and Jharkhand Board SchoolsRajiv Pratap Rudy while addressing the gathering spoke about the importance of vocational education by citing every day examples from our day to day lives. He also said that we have to find out where we Indian stands as far as skills are concerned, in Germany it is 74%, Korea 96% and India has just a meager to 2%. It was a dream of the Prime Minister by 2016 all the academic institutes align with the scheme of National skills. He emphasized on the slogan “Hunar Hai to Kadar Hai”. We should propagate the concept of Make in India and that it will be possible if we skill India. It is not enough to have degrees restricted only to academics because they do not assure to good job prospects. Hence it is very essential to impart skill based education and vocational training to get good jobs so that the youth of India are employed and the problem of poverty is solved. Chief Guest requested Dr. Ram Singh to utilise the infrastructure that we have in our schools to impart training and we should adopt it as a mission. As per the plan of National Skill Development Corporation classes IX, X and XI will be attending 800 hours of academic teaching and 300 hours of skill based training and this academic teaching will gradually increase by 100 hours and reduce the skill based teaching by 100 hours as they go up further.

The other distinguished guests who attended the programme were Sunil Singh [ M.P. Chatra ] and Jai Nandan [ Chairman Jharkhand Gandhi Gram Udyog ], Jaykant Singh, Ramakant, (IAS), P.A. to Rajiv Pratap Rudy. Principals of around 100 schools of all the eminent schools of Jharkahnd (Ranchi), Members of Ranchi Sahodaya School Complex along with the parents, teachers, students attended this programme.

A shawl and a Memento was presented to the Chief Guest by Dr. Ram Singh, Principal DPS, Ranchi as a token of reverence.

The programme ended with the National Anthem.
