Team Anna to organise massive protest rallies

New Delhi: Senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan on Tuesday appealed to the people and government officials to come in large numbers in support of the anti-corruption movement and against the arrest of Anna Hazare and his supporters.

Bhushan called upon all the government official to take one day casual leave on Wednesday and join the anti-corruption movement. He also said that a massive rally in support of Hazare will be taken out from the Pragati Maidan Metro Station to the JP Park in New Delhi.

Calling the UPA Government just like the British government, Bhushan said that many people have been detained all over the country.

Outlining the proposed protests against the arrests, he said that students of Delhi University will take out rallies and court arrest outside Chhatrashal Stadium. He also called on Hazare supporters to assemble at India Gate to stage protests and added that he will move the Supreme Court appealing against the arrests.

“Our supporters will gather at Pragati Maidan at 4 PM and will head to JP Park. We will hold a huge procession from India Gate on Wednesday at 4 PM. We are calling the people from across the country to join us. Some people ask us if the bill is with the parliamentary committee then why the protest. The government’s Lokpal Bill is only a protection bill for corrupt officers. We want people across the country, who support us to tie a black band on their arms. Do the jails of this country has enough space to take lakhs of the people who are willing to court arrest? The SMS company which was helping us send messages was also pressurised not to help us. We are filing petition against all the arrests made. Nobody will ask for bail, the government can keep them jail as long as they want. The Home Minister is taking all the decisions. Delhi Police a puppet of the government,” said the senior lawyer, who was also a member of the Lokpal Drafting Committee.

“Anna was scheduled to undertake his fast from JP Park today. He had announced that he will reach Rajghat at 8 AM and then go to JP park. He was detained at 7:30 AM this morning. The police didn’t tell him why he was arrested, not only him but his supporters including Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi and Manish Sisodia. We have heard that more than 2500 people have been detained in Delhi. Anna Hazare has started his fast from 10 AM today. It’s a fundamental right of any citizen of the country to hold a peaceful protest. We had already said that we will not cause any inconvenience but still Section 144 was imposed,” said Bhushan.
