Technology Workshop “MaxPro-2017” organized at MECON Community Hall

Ranchi, Jharkhand  September | 09, 2017 :: Technology Workshop on Maximizing Productivity of Steel Plants (MaxPro-2017) has been organized by the NIT Rourkela Alumni Association (NITRAA), Ranchi Chapter and MECON Limited on 9th September 2017 at MECON community Hall, Ranchi. More than 150 delegates from different parts of India participated in the technology workshop and exchange their ideas for improving productivity of steel plants in order to meet the challenging target of achieving 300 million tons crude steel capacity as outlined in the National Steel Policy (NPS – 2017). Thirty one technical papers were presented in the workshop by eminent experts from steel industries, equipment manufacturers, consultants and researchers.

The workshop was inaugurated on 9th September, 2017 at 9:30 AM. Shri Atul Bhatt, CMD, MECON Limited inaugurated the workshop. Shri RP Singh, Adivsor, MECON Limited delivered keynote address during the technology workshop. Shri G Chatterjee, Director (Commercial), MECON Limited, Shri PK Sarangi, Director (Technical), MECON Limited,  Shri PC Mohapatra, Director (Projects), Rashrtiya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), Shri SK Pattnaik, Managing Director, Tata Sponge Iron Limited and Shri BN Thakur, Executive Director, SAIL-RDCIS were present in the inaugural session as guests of honour.

Welcoming the gathering, Shri Sarangi  highlighted that the targeted production outlined in NPS-2017 can be achieved by establishing new steel plants and also by improving production from existing steel plants. Shri Thakur discussed  the role of research and development for improving steel production.  Shri Chatterjee emphasized that innovative technologies like IOT will definite help steel plants in improving production. Shri Pattnaik stressed on faster delivery of improved raw materials for maximizing steel productivity. Shri Mohapatra asked steel plants to keep the morale of employees high to improve the productivity of existing steel plants.

Addressing the gathering Shri Bhatt said that the contribution of steel sector to the GDP of India is commendable and making steel for competing in the world market will ensure enormous increase in its prosperity. Shri Singh said that the country is on the path of growth and development and labor costs and power cost are going to increase in future as living standards of our population are improving impacting all other related costs.

The Exhibition stalls and Poster Gallery was inaugurated by the CMD, Mecon. Besides the inaugural session, three technical sessions, one poster session and one valedictory session were organized during the technology workshop.
