The 68th Infantry DayRanchi, Jharkhand | October | 27, 2015 :: The 68th Infantry Day was celebrated in Dipatoli Military Station with military solemnity and fervor. In the morning, at Jharkhand War Memorial, Lt Gen Lalit Kumar Pandey, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding Brahmastra Corps accompanied by all Infantry officers of Ranchi Station laid a Wreath to commemorate and honour Infantry Martyrs who, with indomitable courage and personal sacrifice stand as role models for future generations. The celebrations in the evening culminated with cocktails where Infantry Veterans of Ranchi graced the function.

Infantry Day is celebrated to commemorate the gallant sacrifice of soldiers of 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment at old airfield, in Srinagar. In September/October ‘47’, Pakistani tribesmen supported by Pak Army Officers, marched towards Srinagar after burning down Baramulla Town. On 27 October 1947, 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment air landed at old airfield and with their indomitable courage and self sacrifice, turned the tide and saved the Valley for India.
