26 August 2012 :: Veteran Bollywood actor A.K. Hangal passed away in Mumbai after a prolonged illness. Hangal was 97.
The actor was associated with the film industry since 1967 and worked in nearly 225 films. He is best known for his roles in “Parichay” and “Sholay”.
Born into a Kashmiri Pandit family, he spent his childhood in Peshawar, where he had performed in theatre for some major roles. His father’s name was Pandit Hari Kishan Hangal. However, his primary occupation for the early part of his life was that of a tailor. He was an active participant in the Indian freedom struggle from 1929-1947.
