Ranchi, Jharkhand | February | 05, 2017 :: As soon as basketball tournament comes to an end, Cricket fever grabbed the attention of all the students of Xavier Institute of Social Service as the institute hosted its cricket tournament in the Morabadi Stadium. With a total of ten teams playing against each other in the two-day tournament on the 4th and 5th of February. This cricket tournament is actually a part of the” Diamond jubilee festivities” the annual fest of the institute and is a precursor to it. The fest officially starts on the 14th of this month, however this tournament is a kick start to it.
The tournament witnessed a total of 10 matches, with the marketing seniors team winning the tournament. Day 2 of the tournament witnessed the semi-finals between IT 2-RM2 and FIN1-MKTG2. By chasing the set target of 89 runs the team of RM 2 won the match by 9 wickets and Abhash became the man of the match. The second semi-final was between FIN 1 and MKTG 2. Batting first the team of FIN-1could set a target of only 68 runs before all their wicket fell. Hence MKTG 2 registered an easy win over them in the semi-finals and moved to the finals and Akash Kumar Singh was awarded the man of the match.
Final was between MKTG 2 and RM 2. MKTG 2 set a target of 80(all out). But the bowlers did a commendable job and MKTG 2 won the tournament. Venketesh became the man of the match. Victor Osta George was chosen as the man of the tournament.
Hence an interesting tournament came to an end with teams showing great talent and sportsmanship. The institute now gets all geared up and prepared to celebrate the 60 glorious years by the name of “Diamond Jubilee Festivities” and along with that the annual fest of the college .The fest like every year would be fun filled with al lot of cultural and academic activities going on all around.
