XISS, Ranchi : The 57th Convocation Ceremony of Batch 2016-18

Ranchi, Jharkhand | April | 10, 2018 :: After the successful celebration of XISS’ Annual Fest PANACHE ’18 and the Grand Farewell of Batch 2016-18, the Institute hosted its 57th Graduation Ceremony for the Batch 2016-18 on 10th April 2018.


The Chief Guest for the occasion was Awdhesh Krishna, Managing Director, Global Head (HR) of Nomura Services India Pvt. Ltd. with Sudarshan Suchi, Programme Head, Rural Transformation, Reliance Foundation, Mumbai as the Guest of Honour. The Convocation Procession started with a prayer song by the XISS Choir. Fr. Joseph Marianus Kujur, SJ (Ph. D), Chairman, Governing Body, XISS addressed the Chief Guest and the audience with his welcome speech. Fr. Alexius Ekka, SJ (Ph. D), Director, XISS presented the Director’s Report. Also, the Institute witnessed the release of “AXIS-2018”, the annual magazine of XISS, along with a book titled “Leadership, Innovation and Management Education for a Sustainable World” edited by Dr. Fr. Alexius Ekka and Prof. Dr. Himadri Sinha, as well as few other publications. In accordance to XISS tradition, Fr. Alexius Ekka, felicitated the recipient of “Fr. Michael Van den Bogaert, SJ Memorial Distinguished Alumnus Award” – Bidyut Sarkar, Vice-President and Regional Head, Peerless Securities Ltd., Kolkata.


A total of 290 students of Batch 2016-18 received their diplomas. 17 students of all the departments were the top rank holders who received the gold, silver and bronze medal respectively. They are as follows:-

The other Awards conferred upon students were: “Gold Medal instituted by NTPC for First rank holder amongst General students- Ms. Rya Ray ( Dept. of HRM)”, “Gold Medal instituted by NTPC for First rank holder amongst SC/ST students- Mr. Praveen Tirkey ( Dept. of HRM) and Ms. Ankita Surbhi Toppo (Dept. of Rural Management)”, “Silver Medal instituted by National Institute of Personnel Management, Kolkata for highest score in papers of Personnel Management in P.G. Course in Human Resource Management- Ms. Rya Ray”, “Silver Medal for Best Social Worker from amongst students of P.G. Course in Human Resource Management- Ms. Parikrama Holani”, “Best Communication Cash Award in Memory of Late Arunava Ray, XISS Alumnus, batch 2006-08 – Mr. Bradley Menezes” , “Gold Medal for the Best Outgoing Student of PGDM- Rural Management instituted by CASA- Mr. Sathish Augustine” , and “ Silver Medal sponsored by SODA for Best Performance in Rural Field Work- Ms. Kumari Kashika.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of mementos to the Dignitaries. The ceremony was a success, bustling with joyful tears and laughter of the passing out students and their proud parents and professors.
The students had every reason to celebrate, along with the occasion of Convocation, as the report for final placements were released which reflected that during final placement 6 Pre-Placement Offers were made to the students of three Departments of the Institute, namely, HRM, Marketing and Rural Management. The number of offers made was 236 with a highest salary of Rs. 13.50 Lakhs per annum and the average salary package was Rs. 5.87 lakhs per annum. The Dept. of Finance Management, the Dept. of Rural Management and the Dept. of Marketing have achieved a placement of 96.2%, 95.8 % and 94.2% respectively. Overall placement has reached a total of 83.1%.

 

 

ABOUT AWDHESH KRISHNA
The 57th Convocation Ceremony was not just an auspicious moment for the Institute this year but also a moment of extreme pride as the one of the alumni was called to be the chief guest for the ceremony. Mr. Awdhesh Krishna is Managing Director, Global Head of HR, wholesale corporate and also the head of HR, Asia (ex-Japan) and India at Nomura. Nomura is a financial services company with an employee base of 28,000 and a presence in over 30 countries.
After finishing his PGDM in Personnel Management coursein the year 1990 from XISS, Ranchi, with a gold medal, he began his career with Godrej Group India and progressed gradually with his knowledge and innovative expertise to head the company’s HR function. Further with his ability to blend Corporate strategy with Futuristic Technology, he has been able to bring a big change in the differentiated talent models, and building an innovative culture within organisations.
It was indeed a proud for both the Institute and Mr. Krishna himself to be back at the Institute after having achieved such a position after a period of 27 long years of experience. It shows the rich background and culture of the Institute, ability of its students and also gives the each batch a confidence and inspiration that they can reach up to the same level someday.
