Bihar Battle : Jitan Ram Manjhi resigned as Chief Minister of Bihar ahead of floor test in Assembly20 February 2015 :: Jitan Ram Manjhi has resigned as Chief Minister of Bihar hours before a trust vote in Assembly. Governor does not address the joint session of state legislature after Manjhi quits as CM. Bihar assembly has adjourned sine die.

Jitan Ram Manjhi (born 6 October 1944) is an Indian politician from the eastern state of Bihar, serving as its 23rd Chief Minister following Janata Dal (United) (JDU) supremo Nitish Kumar’s resignation. Previously, he had served as minister for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes welfare in Kumar’s cabinet.

Before joining JDU, Manjhi was a member of the political parties of Indian National Congress (till 1990), Janata Dal (till 1996) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (till 2005). A senior party-hopping politician, Manjhi has been a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 1980 to 1990 (on INC party ticket), then from 1996 to 2005 (on RJD party ticket) and again from 2005 to present (on JDU party ticket). He has been a minister in many Bihar state governments, under multiple Chief Ministers like Chandrashekhar Singh, Bindeshwari Dubey, Satyendra Narayan Sinha, Jagannath Mishra, Laloo Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi.
