Google to shut down first social networking service “Orkut” in September 02 July 2014 :: Google said it will shut down Orkut, which is widely used in Brazil and India. Orkut is a social networking website that is owned and operated by Google. The service is designed to help users meet new and old friends and maintain existing relationships. The website is named after its creator, Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten. Orkut was one of the most visited websites in India and Brazil. On June 30, 2014, Google announced it will be closing Orkut on September 30, 2014. No new accounts can be created starting July 2014.
