Kalaripayyatu team from Karnataka secured 17 medals in the 38th National Games held in Uttrakhand

Kalaripayattu, the martial artform, originated in India. According to mythology it was taught to Parasurama and Agasthya Muni later it was embraced by the entire Bharat as a practice for the war. The scriptures were passed on from generation to generation. It is said that during the foreign invasion and British rule this art form was kind of destroyed … Only after independence, some scriptures were with some groups of Kerala families. And it was revived. Ideally it is a National Game and will be soon in Khelo India.
Rajeev Gupta, founder of Ideate Inspire Ignite Foundation, shared that after the successful Everest summit programs in 2023 and 2024—where over 30 Everest summiteers gathered in Ranchi to share their experiences—it is a proud moment for us to contribute in a small way to the incredible art and sport of Kalaripayattu. Vijayalakshmi Ramkumar, a trained Kalaripayattu practitioner, approached us to support the team by sponsoring jerseys for all its members. It was an honor to be associated with such inspiring participation in the 38th National Games through this small gesture.
In an outstanding display of skill, strength, and agility, Karnataka secured 17 medals and was declared the first runner-up in the overall Kalaripayattu tournament held as part of the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand. With 19 participants, 4 coaches, 2 technical officials, and 1 National Coach, the team competed in 11 events held on the January 29 and 30 in Haridwar.
Bineesh AM and Harinath U bagged gold medals in Sword and Shield, while Ajith P and Jithu PS (Sword and Sword – Weapons Team Category), Upasana Gurjer and Jithu CP (Urumi Veeshal – Flexible Sword), Shreyas Hariharan (Meypayattu) and Praveen P (Chuvadu) won silver medals. Apart from this, bronze medals were also bagged by the participants.
However, it is disappointing that this impressive medal haul is not being added to the overall state medal tally due to Kalaripayattu being classified under the Demonstrative Sports list, but we are optimistic that it would be classified as main national games and later in Olympics also.
As we promote adventure sports, we are thrilled to support Satyarup Siddhanta, a 7 Summiteer and Guinness World Record holder, in his upcoming North Pole expedition in 2025. To enhance his breathing techniques for the extreme conditions, he will be guided by the Kalaripayattu team.
We are delighted to be associated with the Kalaripayattu team of Karnataka in whatever way we can.
Let’s take pride in reviving and celebrating our nation’s rich art forms, inspiring generations to come
