Ranchi, Jharkhand | February | 16, 2020 :: Indian Institute of Management Ranchi, an ‘Institution of National Importance’, was established on December 15, 2009 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India with the extensive support of the Government of Jharkhand.
IIM Ranchi has established Atal Bihari Vajpayee Centre for Leadership, Policy, and Governance (ABVCLPG) which aims to conduct multidisciplinary research in the domains of leadership, policy, and governance. It envisions to become the vibrant knowledge centre which takes forward the scholarly conversations in leadership, policy, and governance and makes the life of citizens of India better.
As a part of the lecture series to share and disseminate knowledge on leadership and governance, ABVCLPG organised a lecture on “Leadership and Good Governance in Indian Context” on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Aryabhatta Hall, Ranchi University. Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice- President of India has graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Smt. Draupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble Governor of Jharkhand was the Distinguished Guest. The entire faculty, staff, student fraternity of IIM Ranchi, dignitaries from Jharkhand Government and invited guests were present in the session.
The Session started with the National Anthem followed by Saraswati Vandana and the Lamp Lightening Ceremony by the dignitaries – Chief Guest, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Hon’ble Vice President of India; Smt. Draupadi Murmu, Hon’ble Governor of Jharkhand; Shri Praveen Shankar Pandya, Chairman, BoG, IIM Ranchi and Dr. Shailendra Singh, Director, IIM Ranchi.
Prof. Shailendra Singh, Director, IIM Ranchi delivered the welcome speech and highlighted about the objectives and activities of the Centre. He emphasized that the centre will undertake the research and scholarly conversation and training the leaders for good governance so that quality of life of citizens improves drastically.
Shri Praveen Shankar Pandya, Chairman, BoG, IIM Ranchi highlighted the illustrious career of Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu. He told that there is a need to design the framework of mining policies for Jharkhand which will definitely help the state. Also there is a need to evolve a system to give opportunities to the tribal people of the state to come up.
Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Hon’ble Governor of Jharkhand, addressed the gathering. She said that good governance is the key to any nation’s progress. She highlighted how the issue of good governance is largely considered as one of the key ingredients for poverty reduction and sustainable development. During her speech, she pointed about the challenges such as women empowerment, corruption, delay in justice, empowerment of socially and economically weaker sections etc. which need to be addressed to facilitate the delivery of good governance to the people at large.
Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice President of India addressed the audience with his magnificent speech. He congratulated IIM Ranchi for taking this ambitious endeavour of solving the problem of all problems through the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Centre for Leadership, Policy, and Governance. He explained about what leadership means in governance. He elaborated the definition of leadership by giving various examples. He said that the Center is to become globally think tank to nurture policy professionals, and thought leaders through research on leadership strategies, policy skills, and governance mechanisms. People will be benefited from the interactive lectures, engage in group discussion, leadership training, and personality development and networking opportunities. We are living in a world of LPG, liberalization, privatization, and globalization. This will throw at our opportunities and as well as challenges. IT, combined with Duty will make things mighty, and that’s what will make our country a beauty.
Prof. Gaurav Manohar Marathe, Convener, ABVCLPG, IIM Ranchi proposed the Votes of Thanks and the session was ended with the National Anthem.
