One day awareness programme on Drug abuse prevention.

Ranchi, Jharkhand | March | 12, 2020 :: Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Ranchi, Dept. of Psychiatric Social Work organized a one-day awareness programme on “DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION” with the support of National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India at Government +2 High School, Ranchi on 12th March 2020.
The welcome note was given by the School Principle and the Chief guest Director of CIP, Prof. Dr. D. Ram addressed the students on various issues related to substance addiction and it’s consequences on health and behavior.
He explained about how the drug abuse starts and how it leads to addiction, Dr.D.Ram explained the role of younger generation in preventing drug abuse.
Guest of Honour Dr.Sanjay Munda, Associate Professor and specialized in Addiction Psychiatry mentioned about the impact of substance abuse disorders on individual, family and society.
The other guests of the programme were Dr.Dipanjan Bhattacharjee in charge Dept. of Psychiatric Social Work Dept and the programme in charge Dr.K.Prasad Assistant Professor of Psychiatric Social Work.
In the awareness programme, the resource persons, Mrs.Mittu Muthu Varghese, Dr.Madhumita Bhattacharya, Ms.Pooja, Dr.K.Prasad presented here about various psychosocial aspects and role of Psychiatric Social Worker, Clinical Psychologist explained along with Psychiatry in substance addiction. Prevention and treatment options of drug addiction explained. The students of 9th and 10th actively participated in the drug abuse prevention programme. Factors affecting substance abuse disorders and physiological changes observed among drug users. Apart from this, they also discussed about the various prevention measures, role of school going adolescents and available treatment options for people with substance dependence. At the end students asked their questions and clarified by the panel of experts from Psychiatric Social Work, Clinical Psychology experts.
