UNICEF & Ranchi Press Club Organizes Media Skills Workshop for Adolescent Reporters


Ranchi,Jharkhand | September |9, 2022 :: UNICEF & Ranchi Press Club jointly organized a media training & workshop for UNICEF’s Adolescent Reporters today at Ranchi Press Club. The purpose of this workshop was to provide Adolescent Reporters an understanding about how the media functions, to hone their writing and reporting skills and provide them a platform to interact with media.

In this programme, Dr. Kaninika Mitra, Chief, UNICEF Jharkhand; Mr Sanjay Mishra, President, Ranchi Press Club; Ms Astha Alang, Communication, Advocacy & Partnership Officer, UNICEF Jharkhand; Priti Srivastava, Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF Jharkhand; Mr Baidyanath Mishra, Senior Journalist; Mr Hari Narayan Singh, Senior Journalist, Mr Niraj Pathak, Senior Journalist and guest lecturer; Ms Monika Arya & Ms Rekha Pathak participated in the programme and addressed the children.

Welcoming the guests, Mr Sanjay Mishra, President, Ranchi Press Club said, “Ranchi Press Club is very happy to associate with UNICEF Jharkhand for the cause of children & child rights. I am very hopeful that this training & workshop organized today will give adolescent reporters an important learning, which they can use in their writing and for raising child rights issues.”

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Kaninika Mitra, Chief UNICEF Jharkhand said, “I am thankful to the Ranchi Press Club for providing this opportunity and platform to children. This will help adolescent reporters to know how to write stories & reports. I am sure that children will also use this skill to express themselves in an effective manner.”

Ms Astha Alang, Communication, Advocacy and Partnership Officer on this occasion briefed about the adolescent reporter’s programme. She said that this programme is being run in 130 schools of 13 blocks in 3 districts – Ranchi, West Singhbhum and Giridih. Under this programme, adolescent reporters meet with panchayat representatives, government officials & legislatures & raise their concerns with them. This programme organized today with Ranchi Press Club which will give them a better learning opportunity to express themselves and help them become even more confident and empowered with new skills.”

During the workshop, senior journalists Mr Baidyanath Mishra; Mr Harinarayan Singh; Mr Neeraj Pathak; Ms Rekha Pathak & Ms Monika Arya oriented adolescent reporters on media functioning, Role of Journalists, report writing and media ethics.

40 adolescent reporters from 7 blocks (Ranchi, Ormanjhi, Angada, Ratu, Nagri, Itki &Namkum) of Ranchi district participated in this workshop today. Adolescent Reporters said that they will use this learning in their writing to raise the issue of children & child rights issues as well.
