Ranchi, Jharkhand | December | Tuesday | 08, 2015 :: The students of the Department of Human Resource Management of Xavier Institute of Social Service organised a short training programme on the ‘Implementation of the 5S Technique in Housekeeping and Sanitation’ for the non-academic staff of the college on the 8th of December, 2015 at 2.30 pm in the XISS Training Hall. The training commenced with an introduction and ice-breaking session via a fun memory game. The students of the Institute went on to explain the basics of the 5S concept as a tool for Total Quality Management. They used visual tools like presentations and short films and documentaries to help the participants realise the importance and implementation of Sorting, Sorting in order, Shining, Standardising and Self-Discipline, which are what the 5S principle stands for. Feedback was taken from all the participants, who elaborated on the difficulties they faced in the execution of their daily duties. The participants were then encouraged to ponder upon these problems and come up with the best solutions for themselves in accordance to what they had imbibed from the training. The student-driven training programme is the first of its kind for the college and is the brainchild of Prof. (Dr.) Shyamal Gomes. The students showed great vigour and spirit in organising the program and it was a great success, allowing the students to come to the same level as the non-academic staff and facilitating a free flow of information and ideas.
