AGOMONI – Durga Puja is about ‘Inclusiveness.’ Artisans of every caste has a task..

It’s a festival which every bengali waits. The festival is started many days before the Durga puja in various forms. People from many states celerbates this is many way like dressed up in various forms and dance etc. Durga Puja is celebrated as a way of worshipping Durga, a Hindu goddess who is the form of Shakti. This festival is celebrated every year from the sixth to the tenth day, in the Ashwin month of a bright lunar fortnight as per the Bikram Sambat Calendar. And the six days are observed as Mahalaya, Shashthi, Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Navami and also Vijayadashami. This festival is considered very auspicious since it also celebrates the victory of good over evil. It was on this day that Durga is said to have killed the demon Mahishasura.
During Durga Puja, it is not just Durga who is worshiped, but also Shiva is worshiped who is Durga’s consort. And for those who are confused, Durga is a form of Parvati; along with Lakshmi and also Saraswati, Ganesha and also Kartikeya who are all said to be Durga’s children are also worshipped.
Durga Puja’s first day is Mahalaya, which heralds the advent of the goddess. Celebrations and worship begin on Sasthi, the sixth day. During the following three days, the goddess is worshipped in her various forms as Durga, Lakshmi, and Sarasvati. The celebrations end with Vijaya Dashami (“Tenth Day of Victory” ), when, amid loud chants and drumbeats, idols are carried in huge processions to local rivers, where they are immersed. That custom is symbolic of the departure of the deity to her home and to her husband, Shiva, in the Himalayas..
